When entering a room to assist an individual with a healthcare activity it is important that you first gather all of the materials you are going to need to provide the care. This can be gloves, aprons, bags, clean pads, tissues, wipes, towels, clean clothing, any creams that the individual may use and any specialist equipment you will need e.g. slidesheet or hoist. It is important that you gather all of these things before starting the care activity so that you do not have to keep stopping and starting. It is important to have everything you need at hand so that you can do everything with as little movement for the individual as possible to ensure that they do not have to go through much discomfort. After the care is completed all materials should be thrown away or put away ready for the next use. Used pads should be disposed of in a clear bag and put in the allocated sluice bin and any soiled bedding or clothing should be changed and put in a red soluble strip laundry bag to be washed separately from non soiled items.
