I have taken an interest into the Øresund bridge project which unites Denmark with Sweden and is a perfect example of the power and importance of civil engineering. The bridge has helped forge and sustain a new and improved relation between the two nations; creating an economic region of 3.7 million inhabitants. Similarly, the Hoover Dam at the Nevada-Arizona Border, which stores the water from one of the largest artificial lakes in the world, was originally built to provide hydroelectric power, agricultural irrigation, and domestic water supply to California, Arizona and Nevada, and has since become a major tourist attraction with over seven million visitors a year.
During my time at school I have come across different situations where I have had to present practical and technical skills during sport but also in class such as producing my final product for my DT class, and managed my time accordingly such as using CAD to help spend more time on harder areas. As a sportsman I have shown I can work in a team using techniques such as communication and in some
cases leadership, during my time in sixth form I have also been a young leader outside of the school day to provide a club for a group of young ‘Beavers
